FHWA Test Submission Guidelines

The following guidelines are established in an effort to standardize the documentation of roadside crash tests stored at the FHWA/NHTSA NCAC Film Library. Below are the items listing the requirements that need to be submitted for the crash tests. These items should be sent by mail to the address below.

  1. The FHWA Film Submission form should be filled and included with the test documentation. This form could be submitted in hardcopy or in PDF electronic format (note: the attached form can be filled in using Adobe Acrobat)
  2. Footage of the crash test should also be submitted for test documentation. Footage could be submitted in 16mm film format (two copies are needed) or in digital format (MPEG, AVI, QuickTime). All crash test films stored at the library are being converted to digital format and, if available, it is highly recommended to submit the films as a digital master. It is also recommended to submit the digital films at their original resolution.
  3. A crash test report documenting the tests should be included. The report could be submitted in hard copy (two hard copies, one unbound) or in PDF electronic format. PDF format is recommended
  4. Any pre and post impact images taken of the vehicle or barrier should be included. The images could be submitted in hard copies (4″× 6″), slides, or digital format (JPEG, TIFF, etc.). Digital format is recommended.
  5. Crash test data should be submitted in this ASCII file format.
